Security increasingly a reason to switch to the cloud

Security appears to be one of the reasons why companies switch to the cloud. This means that there is a third reason why companies are switching to the networks. Flexibility and scalability of the cloud are also often mentioned.

Recently, the video surveillance-as-a-service company Morphean organized a survey of 1500 European IT decision makers. A quarter of them stated that they switch to cloud solutions because they find that safer and often better solutions when it comes to security.

Everyone on the cloud

Nine out of ten IT decision makers have already switched to the cloud. In addition, 81 percent have a cloud strategy ready for next year. On average, one-third of IT budgets in the past year went to cloud adoption and more than three-quarters (78 percent) expect cloud spending to increase over the next twenty-four months.

Respondents assume that roughly half of the internal data will be processed in the cloud within two to five years. According to Morphean-CEO Rodrigue Zbinden, the market study shows what we already knew about conversations we had on the shop floor. But there was – until now – no statistical evidence.

Fear of hacks

It is an interesting observation, because security has also been mentioned in the past as one of the reasons for not switching to the cloud. Fear of cyber-attacks has hampered business adoption of the cloud in certain industries, according to Zbinden. Many IT decision-makers recently thought it would be better to have full ownership of the data themselves, because otherwise they would not be able to control it.

But more and more companies are switching from legacy systems to cloud platforms, for example when it comes to e-mail, CRM, ERP and HR. We now know that security will be the next major growth area for a number of good reasons, concludes Zbinden. The complete whitepaper can be read via this link.
