Pivotal puts high on Kubernetes with new version of Application Service

Pivotal Software has launched a new alpha version of its Application Service, which allows the company to focus higher on Kubernetes. Application Service (PAS) is a platform for the development of software applications, based on the open source Cloud Foundry project.

Pivotal Software’s service aims to make it easier for developers to build, test, deploy and scale their apps on a variety of cloud platforms, writes Silicon Angle. PAS makes it possible for small operator teams to manage a multitude of Kubernetes clusters on a large scale.

By making the Application Service available on Kubernetes, more features are added for developers who want to containerize their apps and make them more agile.

The alpha version of PAS on Kubernetes also brings the popular cf push experience to Kubernetes. Developers can therefore focus on programming. Through the platform it is possible to configure the required dependencies required for software implementation, networking, monitoring and logging.

PKS

With the launch of the Kubernetes service, some of its core functions also come to the Pivotal Container Service (PKS), which is a service that helps developers manage many Kubernetes clusters to scale by handling complex configuration tasks.

There will also be a new alpha release of Pivotal Build Service, which automates the creation of container images and provides additional security and auditing tools. PKS also receives the Pivotal Service Mesh, which automates the installation and configuration of Istio. This allows developers to quickly and securely put apps on production. It also provides secure networks.

In addition, RabbitMQ for Kubernetes has been added, a new messaging system to communicate between the Application Service and the applications it hosts. It also needs to connect third party services such as Twitter and Paypal. Finally, there is Spring Runtime, which supports Java environments.
