Pure Storage launches storage-as-a-service subscription for hybrid cloud

Pure Storage expands its Evergreen Storage Service (ES2) to provide customers with a storage-as-a-service model for hybrid environments. The new uniform subscription formula is available for your own data center, but also for hosted and cloud environments.

Moving to the cloud requires some flexibility that traditional vendors can’t yet provide, says Robson Grieve, Chief Marketing Officer at Pure Storage. Thanks to Pure’s on-premises ES2 subscription, CAPEX expenses turn into operational costs. Customers enjoy greater financial flexibility and pay on the basis of their actual consumption.

With a unified ES2 subscription, customers can move all or part of their pay-per-use block storage capacity between different environments, on-premises and in the cloud, without the need to change the contract. This ensures that data moves more freely and that workloads can be better attuned to the appropriate infrastructure. In addition, new configurations can easily be tested in test environments for final deployment, thanks to the ability to move data without any hassle.

ES2 subscribers will have access to the new formula from the second half of 2019 via Pure Cloud Block Store on AWS. For Pure customers, this offer completes the image of hybrid cloud, says IDC analyst Eric Burgener. With Cloud Block Store, Pure brings business functionality to the public cloud and with ES2 on-premises, Pure brings the public cloud experience to traditional storage.

Data protection

In addition, the new Evergreen Storage Service uses FlashBlade and ObjectEngine to modernise data protection. Compared to traditional disk-to-disk-to-tape, the Pure Storage solution claims to combine strong backup and efficient storage with predictable recovery performance. Organizations can also maximize data reuse by eliminating silos of backup data.
