Databricks and Tableau want to create better data access for data teams within companies, no matter where the information is located. To this end, the two companies are going to work together and are launching an entirely new solution.

Data lakes are often the largest source of data within organizations, but according to Databricks, the quality of data and performance often result in suboptimal user analyses. With the DataBricks Connector in Tableau 2019.3, this should change.

This new feature has been optimized for performance and uses an integration with Delta Lake. Delta Lake is an open-source storage layer that makes it easier to maintain data integrity when new data flows into an enterprise’s data lake. Through the integration, Tableau users can access large datasets throughout this data lake, with the most up-to-date and real-time data. These datasets can also be analyzed.

The Unified Data Analytics Platform of Databricks and Tableau Desktop and Server also offer companies a reliable and fast data lake, where data can be consumed directly by Business Intelligence tools. As a result, data-driven innovation within data science, data engineering and business analytics can be accelerated, according to the two companies.

Twelve times as fast

According to the two companies, the time needed to set up analyses and risk models for projects is reduced to almost zero. In addition, real-time data visualization in Tableau makes it easier for organizations to steer business decisions. This allows architecture to be adapted quickly, and insights across different business units to be optimized.

According to customers who have used the new connector, the initial connection speed with Databricks is 12 times as fast. There is also a 30 percent improvement in SQL generation time. In addition, this is all easy to configure through the new connector. The new Databricks Connector in Tableau is now available free of charge through Tableau Desktop and Server.
