Veeam presented the public beta of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365, v4, during Microsoft Ignite 2019 in Orlando. The company also gave event visitors a sneak peek of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure.

The new solutions support the company’s cloud strategy and offer Microsoft users better data protection, scalability and control over their data in the cloud.

Backup and management of the data in 365 is the responsibility of the user. The new Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v4 enables integration with Microsoft’s Azure Blob Storage, giving companies a cost-effective, scalable and secure solution for that purpose. The new release also improves the performance of back-upping in Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive for Business.

Ease of use

The starting point for Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure is ease of use: turnkey implementation is possible through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. Restore capabilities have also been added, including file-level recovery for native snapshots and Veeam backups. A built-in cloud cost calculator provides customers with cost savings and more control over their spending. In addition, integration with Veeam Backup & Replication allows customers to stay in control of their cloud data by protecting and managing Azure backups.

The new Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v4 is intended for IT decision makers from “cloud-first companies” who prefer to store their Office 365 backups in Azure. With the new version, users can reduce costs with object storage and only pay for what is actually used. They can also expect  unlimited scalability and unlimited storage capacity. In addition, the implementation in the public cloud has been simplified, so that this can be achieved without complex planning.

Also, Veeam customers will soon be able to expand Veeam Backup & Replication and protect Azure-native instances. This is made possible by cloud native data protection, for Microsoft Azure workloads, with support for native snapshots and Veeam backups. All this is optimised for Microsoft Azure Blob. Reliable recovery technologies have also been added, including recovery from the mentioned native snapshots and Veeam backups, and the ability to restore to an on-premise data center or other Veeam-supported environments.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 is already available as a public beta. The company reports that general availability is scheduled for 2019.
