The company is also growing its presence in APAC and North America

This week, Yugabyte announced an expanded global footprint with the opening of new business operations in the EMEA region, as well as in APAC. It also said that its existing presence in its native North America is also growing.

Yugabyte is the company behind YugabyteDB, the open source, high-performance distributed SQL database. Their platform “serves business-critical applications with SQL query flexibility, high performance and cloud native agility,” they say. This service thus allows enterprises to focus on business growth instead of complex data infrastructure management.

The company says its international expansion is a response to the worldwide demand for the YugabyteDB open source distributed SQL database and related products and services.

Currently, Yugabyte has more than 100 employees worldwide and plans to double its headcount in the current fiscal year across all regions with a strategic focus on engineering, sales, and technical support functions.

Karthik Ranganathan, Co-Founder and CTO, Yugabyte, explained their choice of geo targets. “We have focused our expansion in the regions with the highest market demand and top talent,” he said. “We’re excited to continue our growth and build teams in these regions to join us on our mission of becoming the default database for cloud native applications in a multi-cloud world.”

Planning to conquer Europe from its new foothold in the United Kingdom

Yugabyte has now officially established its presence in EMEA with a European HQ based in Surrey, the UK. The firm has plans to expand into the DACH region and Benelux. Its initial focus is in Germany and The Netherlands in order to serve existing and new customers across the region. The company is also expanding its engineering team into Russia.

Martin Gaffney, Vice President, EMEA, Yugabyte, commented. “I am delighted to join the leadership team to support the international growth of the company,” he said.

“The growing move to cloud and microservices-based architectures is driving European enterprises to consider alternatives, as the monolithic, legacy providers’ technology is ill-suited to this new multi-cloud world. We are excited about scaling the EMEA operation and accelerating Yugabyte’s growth.”

Gartner named Yugabyte a 2020 Cool Vendor. The company’s funding comes from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Dell Technologies Capital, 8VC, Wipro Ventures, and Greenspring Associates.
