Red Hat gives virtualization platform Red Hat Virtualization an update

Open source, virtualization and cloud specialist Red Hat has updated its KVM platform Red Hat Virtualization with version 4.3 in advance of its annual major event Red Hat Summit 2019. The core components of the update include security, easier interoperability and improved integration with IT environments.

The now released update to its Enterprise Linux-based software-defined platform for virtualizing Linux and Microsoft Windows workloads should provide end users with an even better platform for automation and service delivery to simplify IT operations.

With the help of the platform based on various open source technologies, they can easily virtualize traditional workloads more easily and at the same time build a basis for future cloud native and container workloads.

More SDN functionality

In the now released update 4.3 of Red Hat Virtualization functionality such as extended software-defined networking (SDN) applications has now been added. This offers end users more flexibility and customer choice in SDN solutions, including support for the latest version of Red Hats OpenStack platform. According to the open source specialist, this creates an open technology stack that is easy to integrate with existing technologies to meet specific business needs.

Other added functionality

Other functionality that has now been added is more integration with Red Hat Ansible Automation for more automation possibilities. Red Hat Ansible Automation enables end-to-end automated configuration, implementation and validation. New features include the use of Red Hat Virtualization Manager via Ansible and the creation and management of physical and logical resources such as hosts, clusters and data centers.

Also, version 4.3 now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 beta-guest. This allows Red Hat Virtualization solution end users to run production workloads on the Linux operating system in a virtualized environment with support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.

Integration with IBM POWER VMs

Other functionality added in update 4.3 includes support for IBM’s POWER architecture. With this, the open source specialist actually seems to show for the first time that the integration between the solution of the current parent company IBM and that of Red Hat itself is getting going. Specifically, Red Hat Virtualization now supports IBM POWER8 and -9 virtual machines in data centers.

In addition to IBM’s platforms, other vendor platforms are also supported to enable end users to migrate their own existing virtual infrastructure to Red Hat’s open virtualization platform.

Red Hat Virtualization 4.3 is available as a standalone solution, as an integrated solution with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and as part of the Red Hat Cloud Suite or Red Hat Virtualization Suite. Existing subscribers can upgrade to Red Hat Virtualization 4.3 via the Red Hat Customer Portal.
