Oracle brings DNS service Dyn into Cloud Infrastructure

Oracle has announced that it will close Dyn, the DNS service it acquired three years ago. The service is integrated into the company’s Cloud Infrastructure.

Oracle has not announced a deadline for the migration of Dyn to the Cloud Infrastructure. However, the company’s customers report having received emails that the service will end on May 31, 2020, writes Cloud Pro. However, Oracle did not confirm this deadline.

However, the company reports that since the acquisition of Dyn in 2016 and the subsequent acquisition of cloud security company Zenedge in 2018, it has been working to integrate Dyn’s products and services into the Oracle Cloud Infratsructure platform. At the time of the acquisition of Zenedge, it was already clear that the DNS and Cloud Infrastructure of Oracle would have to be expanded accordingly.

Criticism

However, Oracle’s decision was not well received by everyone. Several customers claim that with the integration, a free offer will be lost. They also claim to lose a number of functions, in particular dynamic DNS. For a number of users, this functionality is the only reason they use Dyn.

In addition, several people are angry because moving from Dyn to Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure does not happen automatically. These are reasons for several people to switch to another provider.

On Hacker News, for example, a customer states that he now feels like a new subscriber, because he has to re-register and export and import his settings. He also has to buy the product again. I’ve been a Dyn customer for over ten years, but I’m moving now because it’s as easy as staying.
