Apple is not going to sell the iMac Pro after the current supplies run out. The company confirmed this after Apple customers noticed that online, the usual fleshed-out configuration options had been stripped down.
The store also added the phrase ‘while supplies last’ to the iMac Pros offered.
It did not take long for customers to figure out that the product would not be around for too long. After that, some outlets, like TechCrunch, received confirmation from the iPhone maker that the changes do indicate that the device has been discontinued.
The Pro had to compete with the normal 27-inch iMac
Since its introduction in 2017, the 27-inch iMac Pro has not received too many changes or too many significant updates.
Since then, the price configurations of the normal 27-inch iMac have always competed with the iMac Pro, both in terms of features and performance.
Because of this, Apple says that the non-Pro 27-inch iMac is the most popular. However, the iMac Pro is better used by people who need powerful hardware for specific uses. As such, it is less a mass-market product and more concentrated in specific markets and use.
What does the future look like?
Apple updated the 27-inch iMac last summer after it announced that it would be changing the entire Mac product line from Intel CPUs to Apple’s own custom-designed Silicon line.
Bloomberg and others have quoted people familiar with the company’s plans to report that it expects to update the iMac with a new design and Apple Silicon processors before the year is out. There will also be similar updates to the newly redesigned MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
The Mac Pro is not expected to get an Apple Silicon version until 2022 and some of the reports show that a smaller Apple Silicon Mac Pro may be side by side with the bigger Intel-based tower PC.
