The move bolsters Ricoh’s position as one of Europe’s largest managed service providers of smart lockers.

Ricoh has announced that it is acquiring the European business of Apex. Apex is a smart locker provider supporting retail, corporate, and logistics businesses with smart solutions to improve employee efficiency and end-user experience.

The acquisition sees Ricoh acquire the software, solutions and hardware assets of Apex’s European business, as well as taking on Apex’s European customers and partners.

Seeking to deliver more benefits to customers

Apex customers will benefit from access to Ricoh’s broad range of smart locker solutions and the full breadth of its extensive wider portfolio of products and services. With the acquisition reaffirming Ricoh as one of the biggest providers of service support and maintenance for smart lockers in Europe, the company can now offer customers full end-to-end support.

The acquisition will also give Ricoh direct control from manufacturing to installation. This will help them support more agile and flexible responses to customer needs and a faster route to market.

“This exciting acquisition responds to the global challenge of digital transformation and the hybrid workplace,” David Mills, CEO, Ricoh Europe, said. “Having worked in partnership with Apex for a number of years, it is a business we know very well and one that will further enhance the smart locker operations of our customers across Europe.”

Sophie Cox, Director of Sales and Marketing, Service Advantage, Ricoh Europe, also commented. “We look forward to supporting the future growth of our customers and the development of their workplace management efforts in the hybrid working age. At the same time, we anticipate increased demand for locker solutions, particularly with the growth of ecommerce and pressure on the supply chain to distribute efficiently.”
