Adobe releases a good number of prominent updates to multiple solutions in its Creative Cloud portfolio. Photoshop files are shareable via a single URL, the rendering time of After Effects was pushed back, and Premiere Pro now features a transcription tool for captioning videos.
Adobe presents the news at Adobe Max, an annual conference. In this article, we cover some of the most noteworthy updates and additions.
Photoshop
The latest version of Photoshop, available as of today, allow file sharing through URL. Function ‘Open in photoshop on the web beta’ appears above the header of projects. Clicking on it prompts the creation of a web file that can be shared with colleagues, clients or other stakeholders through URL. Permitted individuals can add comments from a browser of choice. Said comments appear on both the web and Photoshop desktop app versions of the project. Additionally, basic tools allow the (minimal) web editing of projects.
Web file sharing is a significant step-up from the previous method, where sharing and exchanging feedback was done entirely in Adobe’s Creative Cloud. To view or access shared files, Recipients were regularly required to possess over software installations and even licenses.
Illustrator underwent the same update as Photoshop. Unlike the Photoshop variant, ‘Open Illustrator on the web’ is currently only accessible to Adobe customers with access to Adobe’s private beta.
After Effects and Premiere Pro
Multi-frame rendering has been available for some time through After Effects beta releases. Now the feature makes an appearance in the live release. According to Adobe, multi-frame rendering can quadruple the rendering speed of video projects.
In addition, Premiere Pro now features a transcription function. The so-called Speech-to-Text promises to facilitate fast subtitling and captioning.
Lastly, the Character Animator sees the light of day. The tool includes body tracking, offering an accessible way to convert body movements – such as the webcam recording of a hand movement or dance – into animation. The Character Animator is available as a module of the Adobe Creative Cloud. Thus, licensees can use the software for any Adobe Creative Cloud application in which body tracking and animation prove useful.
Canvas and Creative Cloud Spaces
The announcement of Canvas and Creative Cloud Spaces comes with the promise of improved collaboration capabilities for professional graphics teams.
Adobe reports that the introduction of Creative Cloud Spaces translates to new shared storage locations for files and dependencies. Furthermore, Canvas aims to provide a new way of presenting projects and portfolios of multilingual creations, emphasising effective communication between graphics professionals and clients or partners.
Both Creative Cloud Spaces and Canvas make an appearance in Adobe’s private beta. General availability follows somewhere in 2022.
