Test results
After setting loose our usual benchmarks on the machine, it becomes clear to us that this Surface Laptop 3 is not just a common laptop. The Cinebench R15 CPU score is 693cb and with this, this 1.5 GHz Intel Core i5-1035G7 CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads performs about 4.5% better than a 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7-3770 CPU. Just like the Surface Pro 7, Microsoft has chosen for an Intel Iris Plus Graphics chip. The Cinebench R15 OpenGL score is 61.14fps and thus performs even better than a generic configuration with an Intel Core i7-3930K with 6 cores, 12 threads and a GeForce GTX 460/PCie/SSE2 graphics module. So, it’s perfect.
The PCMark 8 Home Conventional benchmark shows us a score of 3212 points and PCMark 8 Creative Conventional gives us a score of 3631 points. With this Surface Laptop 3 even positions itself between the average notebook and a gaming pc. Our 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme benchmark, just like the review of the Surface Pro 7, unfortunately gives us a score of 0 points. We expect that the graphics card is too new for this benchmark and since the benchmark software cannot be updated in any way, we will skip this test run.
The battery life of the PCMark 8 Home Battery benchmark is 4 hours and 43 minutes, corresponding with a score of 2553. There is still about 13 percent of battery capacity left. This means that this new laptop from Microsoft even outperforms the average laptop. Class! With this Laptop 3, you can probably work a full working day on a battery charge, including any overtime. PCMark 8 Storage 2.0 gives us a score of 5006 points and a transfer speed of 314.58MB/s. Despite there are SSDs that achieve higher speeds, in practice we do not have the impression that performance is underperforming. All in all, a very nice score from which we can conclude that users of graphical packages will definitely be able to handle this very well.
