Outlook gets additional features: adding apps to meetings

Microsoft will release new Outlook features in the coming months, including tweaks for the new Outlook for Windows app and more integrations with the AI assistant Copilot.

The new Outlook for Windows app will soon receive a feature that was only available in the classic version. This will soon make it possible to add apps to meetings in the Outlook web version, as is already possible in the Windows app.

August/September update

In August, the app and web versions provided features for summarizing meetings. After finishing a meeting, participants will automatically receive a set of all meeting details in their calendar. These include a quick link to the summary page, transcript, recording and shared files.

Users of intelligent summaries can access the “intelligent recap” in Teams directly within Outlook, including the number of participants, how often a name is mentioned and suggested follow-up actions.

In August, the new Outlook for Windows app also gets new sorting and filtering options. Sorting and filtering will now have separate buttons in the Message list.

This September, the new Outlook for Windows will receive additional calendar features. These will allow navigating to time slots via arrow keys in daily, weekly and monthly views.

In addition, next month, it will be possible for iOS and Android mobile users of Outlook to converse directly with the Copilot AI chatbot.

More integration with Copilot

Naturally, the email application within Microsoft 365 will also receive further integration with Copilot. In addition to the previously mentioned integration of the AI assistant with the mobile versions of the mail app, in the near future, it will also be possible to have parts of a written email rewritten by Copilot. This is done with detailed instructions on how Copilot should rewrite these parts, including adjusting tone and length.

This intelligent feature will come into preview this October and be made generally available in November.
