The initiative has the support of the Spanish government and will serve organizations in both the public and private sectors
This week Google Cloud and Minsait announced an expanded strategic alliance. The companies will jointly offer Spanish public and private sector organizations sovereign cloud solutions. The offering will allow organizations to accelerate their digital transformation. Moreover, they will do this while meeting the highest levels of trust, security, privacy and sovereignty, they say.
Minsait will contribute its expertise in external encryption key management, security services, cloud infrastructure management services, and local support. They will also provide ongoing data center auditing.
A “Clean Cloud” in a new Google Cloud Region in Spain
As part of the deal, Google will make data location available in a new Google Cloud region. The region will open in Madrid in 2022. Additionally, the companies say that Spain’s public and private sector organizations will be able to reduce their own carbon footprint. This is thanks to Google’s efforts and investments in sustainability and carbon-free energy. The companies claim they will thus offer the cleanest cloud in the industry.
Minsait and Google Cloud will provide the sovereign cloud offering to Spanish organizations across various sectors. These include healthcare, automotive, public transport, government and more.

A “sovereign cloud” available in Europe
The Spanish Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, welcomed the initiative.
Carme Artigas, Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, commented. “The development of a digital economy and sovereignty necessarily involves the control of data by citizens, organizations and companies,” he said.
He also said it was necessary to have “a sovereign cloud available in Europe.
“This strategic alliance with a national company is a step forward in the right direction,” Arigas declared.
