Python is most commonly used within the Snowflake Data Cloud for building AI models and apps. Especially its ease of use, active community and numerous libraries and frameworks appeal to developers.

In Snowpark, the Data Cloud component for building apps, the use of Python increased by 571%. The Scala and Java languages grew significantly, by 387% and 131%, respectively. These languages ensured that by 2023, 90 AI apps were built daily using the Data Cloud. In the Streamlit component, more than 33,000 LLM applications were created in nine months.

According to Snowflake, the numbers show that data scientists, engineers and developers have a strong preference to program LLM applications on the platform where the data is also managed. “This is indicated by a 311% increase in Snowflake Native Apps – which enables the development of apps directly on Snowflake’s platform – between July 2023 and January 2024,” the company said.

Building chatbots appears to be an important end goal of model creation. According to Snowflake, chatbots fit perfectly with how people naturally want to interact with technology. Chatbots that rely on an LLM can make it easier to interact with an application.

Unstructured data is exploding

Another exciting figure Snowflake sees relates to unstructured data. For example, this type of data from PDFs and images can be a new source for improving model results. Therefore, according to Snowflake, the increased use of AI is directly linked to increased analysis and processing of unstructured data. In the past year, unstructured data processing increased by 123%.
