The Collective and Augmented Intelligence Against Covid-19 (CAIAC), is a newly formed global alliance of think tanks that are working to deliver a platform, driven by AI to curb the effects of Covid-19 on the economy and public health.
The aim is to fight the virus’s effects by way of advising policymakers. The collective is backed by the UN and was formed by the Future Society in association with Stanford University’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI).
Using Big Data and AI for decision making
The plan by CAIAC is to create an advisory group that will be a conglomeration of UN entities like UN Global Pulse and UNESCO. They will then use the growing collection of economic, social, and global health data from this pandemic to enable efficient and confident decision-making by policymakers around the globe.
The idea that spawned this collective is called the Global Data Access Framework (GDAF). It uses big data and artificial intelligence to help achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN.
The endgame
CAIAC’s initial plan will focus on using mobile data and AI to analyse contagion chains, which will help to identify and curb inaccurate information on the pandemic. It will also point out the areas most vulnerable to the effects of Covid-19 and intervene appropriately.
For the AI that will power the idea, CAIAC is working with the private sector and involving companies like Element AI, C3.ai, GLG, stability.ai, and Planet.
The deputy director of Stanford’s HAI says that the pandemic is a shared and urgent global challenge. He affirms that AI can play a crucial role in helping us come out of it through AI-powered data organization and human intelligence for better decision making.
