Microsoft announces the next update for Windows 11. Android apps, taskbar updates and a new design of Notepad and Media Player will be available sometime in February.

Panos Panay, Chief Product Officer of Windows, shares the news in a blog post. The taskbar will be expanded to include a mute and unmute button. In addition, Microsoft is adding a taskbar widget to view local weather reports. The Notepad and Media Players apps have been redesigned to fit the style of Windows 11. Both apps receive a dark mode.

Android apps on Windows 11

Support for Android apps is the most promising introduction. Microsoft is making a number of apps from the Amazon Appstore available for Windows 11. A public preview, meant to collect user feedback and further develop Android support.

In addition to the announcement, Microsoft shared a set of statistics on Windows usage. Windows 10 and 11 run on 1.4 billion devices worldwide. According to Microsoft, Cisco WebEx, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Zoom are used six times more often than before the pandemic.
