Visma acquires Teamleader

Visma announced the acquisition of Teamleader, a Belgian developer. Its software is used by more than 60,000 entrepreneurs.

Visma serves over 1.2 million customers in Europe and South America. The organisation focuses on software for accountancy, consultancy, accounting, procurement and HRM. The product range is regularly expanded through acquisitions. The most recent addition is Teamleader, a Belgian software developer.

The company was established in 2012. The software combines CRM, project management and invoicing. The system facilitates the entire sales process, from the first customer contact to following up on a successful deal. In the meantime, users don’t have to work with spreadsheets or third-party tools. Teamleader offers a central solution.

Teamleader and Visma

Prior to founding Teamleader, CEO Jeroen de Wit developed custom software. He learned that entrepreneurs need a combination of CRM, project management and invoicing. De Wit learned right: ten years later, Teamleader is used by more than 60,000 entrepreneurs.

The company has two products. Teamleader Focus is suitable for SMEs. Teamleader Orbit is suitable for companies with up to 1,000 employees. Both variants are offered as SaaS. Existing customers won’t notice much of the acquisition. Agreements remain unchanged. Teamleader will retain its own name. The team of 180 employees becomes an independent part of Visma.

“The way Teamleader helps businesses grow appeals to me”, shared John Reynders, Area Director Benelux of Visma. “I come from an entrepreneurial family and know that while passion drives a business, the business side of entrepreneurship is just as important. Teamleader understands service organizations like no other.”

IPO

We suspect that Visma offered Teamleader a considerable sum of money. The price is unknown, because as a private company, Visma isn’t required to share details. That may change soon. In 2021, a spokesperson revealed that Visma was considering an IPO in 2023. If the plan is still on the table, the acquisition of Teamleader plays a role. Visma is looking for fast-growing companies to strengthen its position.
