Splunk launches its first industrial IoT platform

Splunk has launched its first Internet-of-Things platform. The Splunk Industrial IoT service should help companies to make better use of their linked data. In doing so, the company embarks on what it describes itself as the IOT revolution. The industrial IoT market is at a unique moment.

During his .conf18 event in Orlando, Splunk unveiled his Industrial IoT platform. This brings together a number of its existing analytics tool into a unambiguous package that should help organizations to get better and more complete insights from their data. The launch is aimed at industrial organisations in several categories, including manufacturing and shipping.

Wide range of applications

With this new step into the IoT world, we bring Splunk’s ability to make machine data usable and accessible to a whole new set of organizations and a whole new set of users – we give them the chance to face multiple challenges with one technology, says Seema Haji, director of product marketing at Splunk.

Splunk Industrial IoT covers the business platform, which offers high-end data analytics, as well as the reporting tools driven by machine learning. This should help manufacturers identify potential maintenance shortcomings and ensure that unplanned downtime is reduced as much as possible. This is currently costing industrial organisations billions a year, but should be significantly reduced.

Splunk argues that the new platform offers real-time insights resulting from the millions of sensors used by industrial companies. The new platform therefore allows for greater efficiency in maintenance. This power is enhanced by the Splunk Machine Learning Toolkit, which allows customers to use algorithms for detecting anomalies, for example. The platform also offers additional security and compliance with laws and regulations.
