Last year, Dropbox released Extensions to perform simple tasks for other software from Dropbox. Now, Dropbox is launching a new series of Extensions.
Extensions are basically nothing more than third party software plug-ins. With these Extensions, users can, for example, put a digital signature on a PDF or make simple adjustments to a photo. This no longer requires a separate app. The tasks can be carried out in Dropbox.
Extensions of Adobe and DocuSign, among others, appeared immediately at the launch in November last year. Now the number of available Extensions is doubled, with thirteen new versions, writes Engadget.
Workplace and Gmail
The new Extensions include Gmail, Workplace by Facebook, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, WhatsApp and Line Works. With these plugins it is possible to add files to messages.
There will also be Extensions for Clipchamp and WeVideo, with which it is possible to create and publish videos. With Vimeo feedback can be stored and videos can be distributed. It is also possible to load media in Canva, before the finished work is stored in Dropbox.
Dropbox has also made an Extension for FreshBooks. With this app it is possible to manage expenses. With Notarize it is also possible to sign and notarise files.
Dropbox as a productivity hub
The new Extensions make it clear that Dropbox wants to be the place to work. With this, the company goes beyond a simple cloud storage and becomes more and more a productivity hub.
The company has made more and more integrations available in recent months. For example, integrations have been set up for education with Klaxoon, Pronto and WeVideo. G Suite users can now edit documents, calculation fields and presentations from Dropbox, and there have already been integrations with Slack, Zoom and Atlassian, among others.
The intention is that more Extensions will be added next year. There will also be support for more languages. The Extensions announced today will be available immediately.
