IT software specialist Quest Software is coming into the hands of investment company Clearlake Capital Group for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition should give Quest more room for growth.
Clearlake Capital Group is acquiring Quest Software from investment company Francisco Partners. This investor bought the software company in 2016 together with activist investor Elliott Management. Quest Software was previously a business unit of Dell Technologies.
Sixfold ROI
According to the Wall Street Journal, Quest is valued at over 4.7 billion euros ($5.4 billion), suggesting the acquisition amount to be in the billions. It has not been officially disclosed how much Clearlake is paying. The earlier buyout by Francisco Partners was valued at 2 billion euros ($2.3 billion). Experts believe that the most recent sum increased by sixfold.
Room to manoeuvre
According to Quest, the acquisition should give it more possibilities — especially when it comes to expanding roadmaps for the core product portfolio, cloud and SaaS services.
