Apple’s Touch ID keyboard was introduced alongside the M1 iMac earlier this year and was only available to people who bought the iMac. It has taken a few months but, the iPhone maker has rolled out the keyboard for everyone else.
The keyboard, which is Touch-ID enabled, is a version of the Magic Keyboard. According to MacRumors, it will have a starting price of $149 for the standard version and $179 for the full-sized one with the numpad.
But, as with anything that comes out of Apple, there is a caveat because, why not?
What’s the caveat?
The standalone models are only available in one color. Yes, you guessed it. They are a cheerless white/aluminum color. If you were having visions of the colorful models accompanying the colored iMacs, banish the thought, or get an iMac.
If you insist on having your gadgets match, Apple has an offer for you. For $129, you can now buy the updated Magic Trackpad, featuring pleasantly rounded corners that match the curved keyboard corners.
There’s one other caveat because again, why not?

Apple may have made the keyboard available as a standalone accessory but did not take this opportunity to switch to a more common type of cable. Both the trackpad and keyboards still use Lightning ports for charging and a woven Lightning to USB-C cable.
One of the most attractive features of the keyboard and trackpad has to be the Touch-ID, right? Well, the biometric sensor will only let you use it if your device is an M1 Mac, and doesn’t that just put a smile on your face?
On the list of M1 Macs, we have iMac models, the Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. Mac Mini owners are going to love this because the keyboard is just what they need. After all, the Minis don’t come with biometrics out-of-the-box.
