Zoom introduces Zoom AI Companion, an assistant based on generative AI. Zoom IQ for Sales got a new name at the same time and is now named Zoom Revenue Accelerator.
Starting in fall, Zoom will introduce new generative solutions on its platform. The additions will come free of charge to all users who have a paid subscription.
Proprietary LLM
The generative AI assistant, Zoom AI Companion, relies on a large language model (LLM) that Zoom developed. There are however additions made from proven models such as Meta Llama 2, and those from OpenAI and Anthropic. It is however not made public which OpenAI model is integrated.
By introducing its own LLM, the generative AI assistant will, in all likelihood, be more responsive to the needs of Zoom users. In training, the language model may have already learned about the company’s various services and be familiar with product names and features. In addition, the assistant may be able to provide better answers in the context of video meetings than a chatbot deployed broadly.
Zoom trained its own LLM based on data from its users. Due to unclear phrasing about the use of data in the LLM’s training, it earlier seemed that data from all users was directly incorporated into the training model. Later, Zoom clarified the situation and now assures that only the data of users who give permission will be used for training purposes.

Integration across platform
The assistant will nestle into all parts of the Zoom platform. It can help users during meetings, while reading bulks of instant messages, with drafting an email, with completing notes on a whiteboard or during a phone call.
In 2024, the AI assistant’s capabilities will be further enhanced. From then on, users will be coached by the assistant in giving public presentations during and after the meeting. It will also become possible to have the assistant complete chat messages, and the chatbot will become separately accessible for asking questions, as with ChatGPT.
The first features of the AI assistant will be available to users via paid subscription starting today. Over the next year, the capabilities will continue to be expanded.
