TomTom provides data for Microsoft services

Microsoft and TomTom signed a partnership in which traffic information and maps will be provided in exchange for AI functionality. Microsoft plans to integrate TomTom’s data into Azure Maps, Bing, Power BI and Microsoft 365.

The Dutch company TomTom may soon integrate AI functionalities into its products. To do so, it will get help from Microsoft, with which it recently signed a long-term agreement. A similar partnership was already underway between TomTom and Microsoft to develop an AI assistant for car drivers. The new agreement transcends this particular use case.

In turn, Microsoft can strengthen its offering with location-based services. There is interest in integrating these services into Azure Maps, Bing, Power BI, and Microsoft 365. Azure Maps is a tool that revolves entirely around location data and can process customer location data.

The integration, by the way, appears to have already started. “Microsoft is already introducing TomTom’s Traffic, based on our new TomTom Orbis maps, and we look forward to further supporting them with the latest and most accurate location data,” said Harold Goddijn, CEO of TomTom.

AI initiatives for the automotive industry

In the agreement, both parties further promise to collaborate on AI products for the automotive industry, as well as logistics and mobility in general. This collaboration also includes supporting customer success stories and providing expert guidance.

Finally, TomTom reaffirms that Microsoft Azure is the preferred cloud provider.
