More enterprise Windows 10 users can expect an invitation to Windows 11. Microsoft is now inviting non-managed enterprise machines to upgrade to the new OS for free.

The invitations will only apply to “cloud-domain-joined” and “domain-joined ” accounts. Also, the PCs in question must of course meet Windows 11’s minimum system requirements, such as 4GB of system memory, 64GB of storage and TPM 2.0. The latter is missing from many older systems; this option enables BitLocker and Windows Hello, among others.

Business environments that IT teams manage themselves will not receive the invitation.

Increasingly attractive

More Windows 10 users can therefore expect another “nag screen”. This screen appears after the login process and offers three options: an immediate upgrade to Windows 11, a planned switch later, and the choice of keeping Windows 10. Those who do opt for the new OS will receive Windows 11 23H2.

It’s quite obvious why Microsoft wants to push the latest operating system once again. Windows 11 adoption is disappointing, but the simple passing of time will change this. Windows 10 (in virtually all its forms) will no longer receive security updates starting Oct. 14, 2025. It is one of the main factors that may avoid the disastrous PC sales figures of 2023, as millions of Windows 10 devices will be left stranded without an upgrade path and due for replacement. However, many Windows 10 users will have trouble moving away from a perhaps better taskbar and start menu. Windows 11 still lacks features like a rolling display of recently opened apps, although customization may help.

Over the past year, Windows 11’s installed base is still growing, albeit in a slow way. Windows 10 is unsurprisingly losing ground, but is still installed on more than twice as many systems as Windows 11.

Windows 11 24H2 should be released later this year. Users who still want to stick with Windows 10 could also wait for this. This update will focus heavily on AI functionality, mostly christened as Copilot feature.
