Windows Recall feature works on older Snapdragon PCs

Software researcher Albacore has gotten the new feature for the Copilot + AI PCs on older PCs with an Arm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chip.

Albacore recently announced his discovery on X. In his post, he states that he got the recently presented Windows Recall feature working on a low-end PC with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7cx processor and only 4 GB of RAM memory. The processor used in the test does not have the NPU deemed necessary for Windows Recall and the minimum requirement of 16 GB of RAM memory.

Proper operation

According to the software researcher, Windows Recall works surprisingly well on the old configuration. Soon, a tutorial on how to implement Windows Recall on a Microsoft Surface Pro X and other Windows on Arm devices will be presented.

In a comment, he indicates that implementing Windows Recall on an x86 PC or laptop will be a lot more complicated. This is because most of the ML models required for the feature, which Microsoft has now sent to PC manufacturers, contain mostly Arm packages.

The intention, however, is for Windows Recall to be able to run on x86 machines eventually. Windows Recall will also become part of the Windows 11 24H2 update that is in the works.

In any case, the trick discovered by Albacore is helpful for those users who do not yet want to purchase new, often expensive, Copilot + AI PCs or laptops from Microsoft.
