Salesforce launches a new set of tools to help manage the deployment of COVID-19 vaccination programs.

This week, Salesforce announced the release of a new product they call Vaccine Cloud. This is a new technology aimed at helping organisations more rapidly, safely and efficiently deploy and manage their vaccine programs.

The platform aims to help government agencies, healthcare organizations, businesses, nonprofits and educational institutions.

Addressing a pressing need worldwide

“Today, international, federal, state and local agencies, healthcare providers and nonprofits worldwide are using Salesforce technology specifically for vaccine administration,” the company stated. Examples they provided include Northwell Health, Illinois’ Lake County, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and more.

The need for this new product is urgent and timely, according to Salesforce. “Now that safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines are available, every country, state and city is rapidly establishing vaccination programs to get shots in the arms of billions of people,” they explain.

The problem, they say, is that many government agencies and healthcare organizations don’t have the necessary technology infrastructure in place. They are therefore struggling to handle the complexity, speed and scale necessary for vaccine administration.

They need help with inventory and logistics management, patient registration, scheduling, recipient outreach and vaccine outcome monitoring, according to Salesforce.

Selling to private, public and hybrid organisations

“Governments are also partnering with private sector companies to help manage this mass vaccination effort,” they wrote, “and these businesses need the same technology infrastructure to help deliver safe, efficient and effective vaccine administrations and programs.”

Bret Taylor, President and COO of Salesforce, described the heavy lift they were facing. “The biggest challenge the world faces right now is orchestrating the distribution of billions of vaccine doses,” he says. “Technology can play a critical role in ensuring it’s done efficiently, effectively, and equitably,” added.

Taylor also boasted of the role his company is playing in combating the pandemic. “We’re proud to be supporting organizations through their recovery and helping to protect people from the effects of COVID-19.”
