Open source giant Red Hat has announced OpenStack 16, the company’s IaaS solution. The new version is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and should help companies with innovation and consolidation.
When it comes to innovation, the main focus is on fewer disruptions that stand in the way of developers. Consolidation is achieved by providing longer support for features, and by offering innovations from the community as business features. In addition, this is done through stream releases. Incidentally, OpenStack 16 was created through a combination of the community releases Rocky, Stein and Train with OpenStack 14 and 15.
Optimisation, standardisation and cost savings
According to Red Hat, OpenStack Platform 16 enables organizations, including telcos, to more effectively transform their IT infrastructure into an environment that is more agile, efficient and innovative. This should be made possible by, among other things, the modular setup. In this way, IT activities for existing traditional applications will be optimized. At the same time, the modular approach serves as a basis for cloud-native application development and implementation.
The renewed platform helps organisations to standardise, since they can continue to use one version of the platform for up to five years. This allows IT teams to deploy traditional and cloud-native workloads on the OpenStack Platform, giving them the flexibility, scalability and innovation of the hybrid cloud, as well as the long-term business support of Red Hat.
At Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16, the platform’s life cycle is further aligned with that of the underlying Red Hat Enterprise Linux-OS. This alignment reduces the time required to test and certify applications, saving time and costs.
