The platform will now offer contactless room controls and other tools to facilitate collaboration between in-office and remote workers.

Zoom this week announced the availability of Zoom Rooms ‘Everywhere Workforce’ Innovations. These new features aim to address the impending needs of the modern workforce in a post-COVID-19 environment.

“The traditional workplace has evolved and adapted with employees and organizations embracing more places as workspaces,” they wrote. “Whether it’s in an office, co-located space, remote location, or at home, Zoom’s platform enables organizations to put employee health and safety at the center of their strategy.”

New platform features put health and safety first

Zoom wants “to help safely re-enter the workplace and better enable a hybrid workforce,” according to the company.

One new feature is that users can now pair their iOS or Android mobile client to a Zoom Room. This allows them to easily join meetings on the Zoom Rooms directly from their client.

The Zoom Rooms Controller mobile app provides access to additional room controls, including the ability to start or join a meeting and full audio, video, and participant controls.

Many of the new features deal with employee health and safety. For example: Zoom Rooms users can now see how many people are in a room. The Zoom Dashboard and the Scheduling Display show the headcount in real time. This helps to enforce social distancing mandates and avoid overcrowding meeting spaces.

Neat Bar is a Zoom Rooms Appliance that includes an advanced set of capabilities called Neat Sense. These let users monitor their meeting rooms for things like air quality, humidity, CO₂, and volatile organic compounds. The goal hers, according to Zoom, is to keep occupants safe and healthy.

“People are at the heart of every organization and keeping them safe, connected, and productive is a top priority,” said Oded Gal, Chief Product Officer of Zoom.

“As the world plans to safely reopen businesses, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and government entities, we are focused on innovating across our platform to support their needs.”
