VMware is teaming up with eero, a subsidiary of Amazon, to offer home workers better business networking functionality and security. To this end, eero 6-series mesh WiFi systems will be combined with VMware’s SASE Work from Home solution.

The parties want to offer remote workers the best network functionality and security in the form of a better WiFi experience. The eero 6-series systems offer WiFi 6 for faster speeds and coverage that allows multiple devices to be used simultaneously within a home. Moreover, with better coverage, employees should no longer be tied to a single location in their home environment.

Within the joint solution, customers have a choice between two eero 6 models. The eero 6 Pro, a tri-band mesh WiFi 6 router for homes with Gigabit Internet connections, or the eero 6 dual-band mesh WiFi 6 router, for homes with Internet connections up to 500 Mbps.

Cloud-based security from VMware

To provide cloud-based security within the joint solution, VMware integrated its VMware SASE for Home solution. The solution promises to ensure that the connectivity and network traffic between the corporate network and all applications and workloads located in on-premises data centers, (hybrid) cloud and public cloud are more secure, reliable and efficient.

For this purpose, VMware SASE for Home supposedly automatically recognizes 3,000 different applications. Additionally, the tool intelligently prioritizes traffic from essential business applications, VMware states.

Tools for administrators

VMware SASE should also allow IT administrators to manage all network and security policies for the solution via the central Orchestrator tool. Administrators can configure policies centrally for all sites running on eero mesh WiFi systems. Furthermore, the VMware SASE solution enables the application of AIOps, aiming to give administrators more and better insight into the actual end user experience when cloud-based applications are used.

The collaboration between VMware and Amazon eero is likely to be VMWare’s last under the Dell Technologies banner. As of November 1, after a lengthy demerger process, VMware becomes a stand-alone company.
