Google is working on cybersecurity services with this new effort aimed at smaller businesses that rely on legacy technology and don’t have the expertise to deal with remote security issues.

Google’s Work Safer program

Google Work Safer is a new product that provides businesses with a suite of services for securing email, messaging, meetings, and documents. The solution integrates Google Workspace services like Gmail, Hangouts, and Google Docs with BeyondCorp Enterprise, Google’s zero-trust security program, and extends those capabilities to older apps.

When getting permissions or maintaining access to applications and data, all users, whether inside or outside the organization’s network, must be verified, authorized, and continually checked for security configuration and posture.

According to Google, legacy apps require this level of security, citing data from Accenture Security that shows a triple-digit spike in cyberattacks in the first half of the year.

The ubiquity of remote work, which means millions of company workers are accessing legacy programs that were never meant for that purpose, is one of the reasons cyberattacks are on the rise.

Work Safer enables zero-trust security

Work Safer does a lot more than enable zero-trust security as it also has threat detection and data protection features. For this, Google partners CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. and Palo Alto Networks Inc. provide threat detection, and their endpoint protection services help enterprises improve their security posture. Moreover, Google is delivering hardware in Pixel smartphones managed by Android Enterprise and HP Chromebooks with Chrome Enterprise Upgrade for data protection.

Google introduces new strategic advising service

Google Work Safer is launching alongside the Google Cybersecurity Action Team, a new strategic advising service.

The new team, made up of Google security professionals, is formed to help businesses and governments with their digital transformation efforts. It is also designed to assist clients in addressing security risks related to vital infrastructure.
