The new approach should contribute to BigID’s efforts to help businesses harness the full potential of the cloud.
American company BigID is growing rapidly with a platform for regulated, sensitive, and personal data. During the RSA Conference, taking place this week in San Francisco, it announced new features for its technology. Dual-scanning, or hybrid scanning, as it also calls the approach, is one example. This combines side-scanning and direct-scanning techniques for data discovery, management, and protection.
According to BigID, combining these two technologies leads to rapid onboarding and scanning of thousands of data sources. This is done using the speed of side scanning for initial discovery; then, direct scanning applies its thorough process for deeper insights. BigID also automatically identifies data sources to provide the necessary connection information for both scanning methods. Companies can tailor the scanning strategy to their needs so that resources are deployed and land in the right place.
Dual-scanning users can count on the right insights about their data risks. They can then act accordingly through data masking, deletion, and encryption, for example. In addition, dual-scanning provides the insight a company needs to comply with privacy regulations, such as the GDPR. Organizations need to be able to identify and map personal data more efficiently to comply with legal requests more quickly.
