Microsoft will present the latest Surface laptops at a “digital event” on Thursday, March 21, at 6 p.m. CET. Aside from an OLED screen for the Surface Pro, an updated design and new processors, presumably the most significant innovation is that these will be the company’s first AI PCs.

On this website, the event has been announced and can be followed when it comes.

The announcement concerns the Surface Pro 10 and Surface 6 laptops. Both models have a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to handle AI tasks via Copilot efficiently. This should greatly benefit battery life, reports Windows Central. Further innovations include a haptic touchpad for the Surface 6 and a built-in NFC reader for the Surface 10 Pro. The hardware will hit the market in April.

AI Explorer

We previously wrote about the new “AI PCs” that locally enable all kinds of features with targeted hardware for AI applications. One example is faster retrieval of previously used files using plain language search queries. These and similar features will be available under the name ‘AI Explorer.’

The intention is that Copilot will eventually remember all conversations with the user so that the AI tool can respond to the user’s needs as much as possible. In the process, all data would be stored locally to avoid privacy issues.
