Microsoft advises Windows 10 users to migrate to Windows 11 even more urgently. Users will now see full-screen advisories to encourage migration.

Microsoft wants Windows 10 users who have not yet switched to migrate to Windows 11 more quickly, especially as the end-of-life date of full support for this operating system approaches on Oct. 14, 2025.

New push campaign

Starting in January, Windows 10 users will be shown pushed full-screen pop-up calls or ‘ads’ after each update to persuade them. The “ad” gives these users the choice of switching to Windows 11 or staying with Windows 10.

In the latter case, these users must click through four more screens before they can boot up their operating system. Through the screen ads, the tech giant is trying to convey the benefits of Windows 11 so that users will still be convinced to migrate to Windows 11.

Windows 11 adoption lags behind

Recent figures from StatCounter show that by the end of January 2024, the percentage of PCs running Windows 10 will reach 66.45 per cent. Only 27.82 per cent are now running Windows 11.

Incidentally, this is not the first time Microsoft has mounted such a campaign to persuade Windows 10 users to migrate to Windows 11 anyway. This also happened between February and May 2023.

Of course, Windows 10 users can also wait to migrate to Windows 11 and switch directly to Windows 12, which will probably be launched this year.
