Red Hat has announced the availability of Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage 4. The new version should provide users of the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform with an integrated, multicloud experience.

Earlier we wrote about the new version of OpenShift itself, Red Hat’s Kubernetes management platform. OpenShift’s storage solution is designed to be a consistent storage solution for a variety of data-centric applications in the hybrid cloud.

Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage 4 has been enhanced with a Multi-Cloud Object Gateway from NooBaa. That company was acquired by Red Hat in 2018. The solution now needs to offer greater abstraction and flexibility, and gives customers the freedom to choose data services across multiple public clouds. On the other hand, they can continue to work from a unified, Kubernetes-based application and storage management environment.

This should not only help customers avoid public cloud lock-in, but also enable developers to keep their data close to applications for a more efficient development process.

The new version of Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage is accessible in all locations where Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is available. For developers building cloud-native or legacy applications, Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage 4 should help accelerate development.

Ease of use and security

Developers should be able to create their own storage with the new version from within the OpenShift platform without the need for storage expertise. Red Hat also says it will increase usability and automation with Rook’s storage orchestration capabilities. With the Rook.io Operator, developers can use Kubernetes-native, automated support. This should make it easier to deploy, package, and expand storage on Red Hat OpenShift.

Persistent volume creation is also faster than before, allowing developers to build, test and deploy applications faster. Build times are shortened and the efficiency of the continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline needs to be improved. In addition, security has been improved, ensuring security in all cloud environments. In addition, the release provides comprehensive data protection features, including encryption, anonymization, key separation, and erasure encryption.
