Proofpoint lets SMBs call on agents to stay compliant

Proofpoint has announced the global availability of the Nuclei Discovery & Archive Suite. It is a cloud-native communications governance and archiving platform for small and medium-sized businesses. The suite promises rapid deployment and simple per-user licensing. The suite offers support of more than 80 digital communications channels without requiring dedicated compliance teams.

SMBs are often in the tough spot where compliance requirements are high but time is deeply limited. Proofpoint’s Nuclei Discovery & Archive Suite, announced today, is an attempt to change that. The cloud-native platform is purpose-built for organizations that lack the staffing or budget of large enterprises, yet face the same regulatory and e-discovery obligations. The new offering is largely made possible by Proofpoint’s Nuclei acquisition from the middle of last year, which was founded in 2018 in India.

The Nuclei Suite supports data capture from more than 80 digital communications channels. Microsoft 365 customers can cover a large part of their archiving needs via a single connection covers Exchange email, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Viva Engage, and Copilot. Each subscription includes 10 GB of pooled archive storage per user and connection.

AI-first, without the compliance complexity

Traditional supervision platforms typically require lexicon creation and ongoing rule maintenance, in other words: the kind of overhead compact IT teams cannot afford. The Nuclei Suite sidesteps that with optional AI-first supervision based on agent-based analysis, identifying conduct, compliance, and insider risks across digital channels without any lexicon setup.

“Organizations are frustrated by legacy archiving tools that are complex, expensive, and slow to deliver value,” said Harry Labana, senior vice president and general manager of Proofpoint’s Digital Communications Governance business unit. The suite integrates with Proofpoint Insider Threat Management, adding visibility into communications risk.

Many features add flexibility to the solution, including what Proofpoint calls an intuitive search function, litigation hold, data export without added fees, and built-in reconciliation and reporting. Everything is managed from a single administrative interface.

Proofpoint’s expansion

Proofpoint has made multiple acquisitions recently, including Nuclei. It completed its 1.8 billion dollar acquisition of Hornetsecurity, a specialist in Microsoft 365 security and compliance for SMBs and MSPs. In February, Proofpoint acquired AI security firm Acuvity to add AI-native governance and visibility capabilities to its platform.
