Google recently fixed a critical vulnerability that allows hackers to remotely attack Android phones with a Qualcomm chipset. Other very critical vulnerabilities have also been fixed.

In the first 2024 patch round for Android, Google patched a total of 59 vulnerabilities. These patches target not only the mobile OS but also fix problems with chip manufacturer components present in smartphones.

Google has now managed to patch an important vulnerability in several Qualcomm chipsets for Android. The very critical vulnerability CVE-2023-33025 is in the data modem of these chipsets. More specifically, this involves a buffer overflow that can occur during a VoLTE call. This buffer overflow then allows hackers to execute arbitrary code.

Other patched vulnerabilities

More important issues have been fixed. For example, another vulnerability allows a malicious app to escalate privileges without interacting with users. This allows the malicious app, for example, to be able to access data to which it has no privileges or perform unauthorized actions.

Latest Android versions

The new patch release is for Android 11, 12, 12L, 13 and 14, so devices with older Android versions will not get the patches. Depending on your smartphone manufacturer, the patches are also already available for your device.
