Dustin has taken parts of its IT environment offline following a serious security incident. Unauthorized individuals gained access to the internal systems of the Swedish IT reseller, which also operates in the Benelux region through Centralpoint. The Dustin website for various countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden, is currently unavailable.
As a precaution, the company has taken a number of systems, including the website itself, offline for security reasons. Dustin has not disclosed exactly when the unauthorized access occurred, when the incident was discovered, or whether the attackers have since been blocked.
It is also unclear whether customer data was compromised. Dustin states that minimizing the impact on customers is “the top priority.” The company is investigating the matter in collaboration with external cybersecurity experts and is in contact with relevant authorities, including the police. In various EU countries, data breaches must be reported to the local data protection authority.
Online store closed, reopening possible next week
Dustin’s website is unavailable this afternoon in various countries. According to Swedish reports, the online store is temporarily shut down, meaning customers cannot place orders and deliveries are not being processed. Dustin says it aims to reopen early next week.
Dustin is a major reseller in the Nordics, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Through various acquisitions, the company expanded from its native Sweden, having been founded in 1984. The company acquired IT reseller Centralpoint in 2021 for 425 million euros. With that acquisition, Dustin sought to establish a leading position in the Benelux region.
The investigation is still ongoing. Dustin is working to restore the disabled systems and says it will share more information as appropriate.
