HPE subsidiary Aruba has announced several new features for its Edge Services Platform. It mainly concerns a set of integrations with other Aruba software solutions.

In a press release, Aruba names three improvements for its Edge Services Platform. The first is integration of the ClearPass Policy Manager platform with the Aruba EdgeConnect SD-WAN edge platform. This should facilitate the identification of users, IoT devices, employee roles and build a security policy for the base of a SASE WAN edge. In addition, there will no longer be a need to create hundreds of VLANs for each class of users and devices, which should simplify network management.

Threat Defense

In addition to ClearPass Policy Manager, Aruba has also integrated its Threat Defense with EdgeConnect. This allows the EdgeConnect platform to leverage the Aruba Thread Infrastructure, sharing threat information between Aruba Central and EdgeConnect. This provides customers with transparency and visibility into the entire network, Aruba claims.

Easier integration with security partners

Finally, Aruba has added general information about the cloud security partner’s services to its Orchestrator management console by default. This allows network administrators to more easily connect their Aruba affiliates to the partner’s POPs and cloud data centres. With this, Aruba wants to offer more freedom of choice for cloud security solutions.

“The integration of ClearPass Policy Manager and Aruba Threat Defense with the EdgeConnect SD-WAN edge platform allows us to deliver a consistent identity-based policy framework across the Aruba secure edge portfolio,” said David Hughes, founder of Silver Peak and senior vice president of the WAN business at Aruba. “This powerful combination will enable customers to move at their own pace, from legacy data center-centric network architectures, with perimeter-based security, to a cloud-centric WAN with security based on the principles of Zero Trust and SASE. Enterprise customers can deploy our on-premises EdgeConnect WAN edge platform to enforce policy from the edge, and easily integrate with leading cloud-delivered security services from the vendor of their choice, all centrally controlled within Aruba Orchestrator.”

Integration of Silver Peak products

Many of the new services result from HPE’s acquisition of Silver Peak, which it completed last year. Back then, HPE said it would integrate Silver Peak’s SD-WAN technologies with Aruba’s Edge Server Platform. With the current announcements, those integrations have been expanded a bit further.
