Microsoft has assigned Build 19043.928 as the final build for the 21H1 feature update to Windows 10. On April 28, officials called this build the ‘May 2021 Update’ in a Windows Insider blog post.

It was then made available to all participants in the Release Preview channel for download. Notice that no one has said anything about RTM but that is what we are implying here. Windows 10 21H1 will be a minor update to Windows 10 20H2, which was a minor update to Windows 10 2004.

What can we expect about the release?

The official rollout of 21H1 will most likely happen on May 11, Patch Tuesday. Microsoft notes that Insider testers in the Beta and Release Preview channels are already on the laters 21H1 bits as of earlier this week, with the rollout of Build 19043.964.

Those in the Release Preview Channel will have access to the 21H1/May 2021 Update by actively going into the Settings>Updates & Security > Windows Update.

Microsoft already made 21H1 available for commercial validation via the Windows Insider Program for Business in March. The participants have been able to test Windows 10 Enterprise and Pro editions since then.

What’s in 21H1?

In addition to generic fixes and security updates, there’s also:

  • Windows Hello multicamera support, to set the default as the external camera when both external and internal Windows Hello Cameras are in use.
  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) updated performance and support for remote work use.
  • Windows Defender Application Guard performance improvements including optimization of document opening.

Other features will reveal themselves in time. The estimation is that the product will be available for mainstream users in the latter half of the year but there is no official confirmation of that yet.
