A reliable and secure operating system should form the foundation of modern workloads, be they critical production applications or research projects. The adoption of Red Hat Enterprise Linux by businesses, NGOs, organizations across the globe and governments, demonstrates the belief that it is one of the best operating systems.
It is the underlying foundation of computing needs on the open hybrid cloud. That is why Red Hat has been working to make RHEL available to more users.
The approach expands access to individual developers to run RHEL in production at no cost and streamlining how open-source projects can access RHEL at no cost to drive innovation.
Expanding the academic base
Red Hat announced that it is extending the availability of RHEL by enabling access to the subscription offerings for research and academic institutions. While Red Hat has offered a low-cost option for academia, it was only available to entities allowed by law to give degrees. Now, RHEL will be offered to research and academic-related organizations via the Red Hat academic subscription program to make access, running, and maintaining RHEL easy and suitable for unique needs.
Commitment to innovation
Red Hat says it is committed to serving as a technology engine for academic and scientific research, to open innovation, as highlighted by a recent project in collaboration with Boston University.
Red Hat says that it recognizes that key members of the open-source community come from academic and research organizations, which helps drive innovation and educate the next generation of IT leaders.
As it continues to look for a way to expand RHEL access, Red Hat encourages you to see if your organization qualifies or contact the team at redhat-academic@redhat.com for more information.
