Microsoft previews new Dynamics 365 and Power Platform features

In Mid-July, Microsoft announced some of its release plans for the 2021 Wave 2 features it is bringing to Dynamics 365 ERP/CRM and the power platform.

On August 2, the software giant released a number of the Wave 2 features but in ‘early access’ format, ahead of the official rollout on October 1, going all the way to March 2022.

Microsoft is bringing hundreds of new features to its Dynamics module in Wave 2, including Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Finance and Operations, Connected Store, Human Resources, Customer Voice, Project Operations, Customer Insights, Business Central, Field Service, Supply Chain Management and Commerce.

“The Wave”

Microsoft is also adding new features to its Industry Clouds, including Cloud for Nonprofits, Cloud for Financial Services, and Cloud for Healthcare, in Wave 2.

In the same wave, Microsoft plans additions to Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, AI Builder, and Power Virtual Agents. Most of the new features may seem incremental to a non-technical user. However, the complete release plans reveal more and are available for download (click here for Power Platform Wave 2 plans and here for Dynamics 365 Wave 2 plans) to find out more.

Microsoft is rolling out some features via Teams, as it tried to integrate Dynamics and Teams even tighter.

A deadline for on-prem Field Service

During the Inspire partner event, the company announced that it would make Dynamics 365 data available to Teams users, with no additional cost.

As for Field Service, Microsoft plans to discontinue Dynamics 365 Field Service on-premises by June 30, 2022. Customers are advised to move to Dynamics 365 Field Services in the cloud before then. After June 30, 2022, users will still have access to an on-premises version if they have it already installed, but there will be no new on-premises installations released after that.
