Microsoft Viva Goals is now generally available. The management system supports the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework, which is widely used in major corporations. You can think of it as a tool for keeping track of one’s objectives and progress.

Viva Goals interfaces with Microsoft Viva, allowing companies to track the success of individuals and teams from a single location. It’s designed to easily link everyday actions to long-term goals.

How does it work?

In a Tech Community article announcing public availability, Microsoft detailed how Viva Goals works. First, the tool maintains clarity. You can efficiently foster clarity for your team, connect everyday work to results, and align at all levels by having one single source of truth for goal setting, tracking progress, and measuring success throughout your business.

Second, the tool helps focus teams on effect rather than output. Shift your emphasis from work and activity to effect and outcomes, use customizable dashboards to transform data into insights, and stay nimble at scale.

Third, the tool includes goals in daily workflows. Maintain focus on goals by integrating data and actions into the environments your team currently uses, such as Microsoft Teams, ADO and the most prominent data and project management software.

What do you need to use Microsoft Viva Goals?

People can share their progress to keep others informed. Viva Goals enables shareable links for some products. Viva Goals is available in two SKUs: Microsoft Viva Goals SKU and Microsoft Viva SKU.

Users will need one of the following licenses to utilize the Viva Goals program in Teams: Office 365 F3, E1, A1, E3, A3, E5, A5; Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium; or Microsoft SharePoint K, Plan 1 or Plan 2.
