Virtualization specialist Citrix may end up in the hands of private investors Elliott Management and Vista Equity Partners.

According to anonymous sources from Bloomberg, activist hedge fund Elliott Management and private investment firm Vista Equity Partners are working on acquiring Citrix.

The private investors are no strangers to Citrix. Recently, Elliott Management assumed a strategic, 10 percent stake in Citrix. In early 2020, Citrix acquired a Wrike, a company owned by Vista Equity Partners at that time.

Refocus

The rumoured acquisition follows closely after Citrix statements claiming it is in the process of reorienting its activities and considering a buy-out or spin-off. Earlier, Citrix decided to reorganize in response to disappointing quarterly figures, which involved dropping personnel and closing offices.

New impetus for partner program

In addition to the rumours of a possible sale, interim Citrix CEO Bob Calderoni indicated the desire to give Citrix’ partner program a new impulse. Among other things, the virtualization specialist wants to enrich partners’ and resellers’ sales incentives. In addition, Calderoni intends to increase investments in Citrix’ DaaS and Application Delivery Controller-as-a- Service (ADCaaS) services.
