Zoom acquires online event startup Liminal Entertainment Technologies. Thereby, the provider of online meeting and video services strengthens its portfolio in the field of online event hosting.

Through the acquisition of Liminal, Zoom aims to incorporate more technology for hosting online events into its platform. The acquisition’s financial details are undisclosed at this time.

Liminal

Among the startup’s technology are ZoomOSC and ZoomISO, two Zoom add-ons that enable professional virtual events.

ZoomOSC enhances professional meetings and events using the Open Sound Control protocol. This enables Zoom to work with third-party software, media servers and hardware controllers. ZoomISO allows the video feed of participants to be exported as separate outputs to professional production hardware. High-definition output of up to five feeds is supported.

Expanding professional services

By acquiring the developer and its tools, Zoom says it can better bridge the gap between emerging and traditional event control tools. This will help broadcast studios, theatres and other event venues to host professional event streams. The tools should also help Zoom expand its Events feature to create event hubs, sell tickets and create multiple livestream sessions.

Liminal’s tooling will remain available on the startup’s website for now. After the acquisition’s realization, the tools are to be integrated and exclusively made available in Zoom.
