IBM is paying $2.13 billion (€1.95 billion) for Software AG’s StreamSets and WebMethods platforms.
The acquisition of the integration platforms should give IBM more opportunities to further focus on AI and hybrid cloud. For example, the arrival of the StreamSets platform should bring more data integration functionality to the IBM AI and data platform watsonx. The WebMethods platform should give users more integration and API management tools for hybrid cloud environments.
More specifically, the StreamSets platform is a cloud-based DataOps and data ingestion platform that enables companies to enable consistent data access and delivery. In doing so, the platform provides access to multiple data sources and types.
The platform also allows companies to easily design smart data pipelines and enable real-time and batch data ingestion.
webMethods for API management
Software AG’s webMethods platform is an integration and API management platform for both on-premises and cloud-based environments. Among other things, the platform enables enterprise data integration and managed file transfer. It also provides a modern API gateway for managing, monitoring and monetizing APIs.
The acquisition is due to close in the second quarter of 2024.
