Veeam has released Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform. The software facilitates backing up databases to the Google Cloud Platform.
With the new solution, companies can use Google’s backup techniques to recover from data loss quickly and reliably, ITPro writes. It should also make it cheaper to expand storage capacity. The service also provides a centralised platform for managing and protecting data and applications in different environments, whether in the cloud, virtually or physically. This helps in the transition to hybrid cloud solutions.
Strategic importance of the cloud
“Veeam recognizes the strategic importance of the cloud to our 400,000+ global customers and we are committed to providing broad platform support and choice,” said Danny Allan, chief technology officer and senior vice president of product strategy at Veeam, in a press release. “As we now expand public cloud support even further with the general availability of Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform, we have simultaneously expanded our partnership with Google Cloud, enabling Veeam to jointly engage customers through the Google Cloud Marketplace. Additionally, with Veeam recently acquiring Kasten, customers can also acquire Kasten’s K10 data management platform, purpose-built for Kubernetes, through the Google Cloud Marketplace.”
AWS and Azure also available
Google Cloud is not the first platform that Veeam supports for backups. In late 2019, Veeam released Veeam Backup for Amazon Web Services, specifically designed for cloud-native Amazon Elastic Computer Cloud protection (Amazon EC2). In 2020, it added Backup for Microsoft Azure, with which the company now supports the three largest cloud providers.
