FAT32 can handle up to 2TB in new Windows 11 Preview Build

File system FAT32 can now handle 2TB and no longer has a limit of 32 GB. Windows 11 also has new power management modes, where users can choose the main power or battery settings separately. The new features are part of a new Build available to Windows 11 Insiders via the Canary Channel.

In the latest Canary update Build 27686 for Windows 11, Microsoft brings several new features to its operating system. For example, Windows Sandbox Client Preview has been improved. Updating this is now possible through the Microsoft Store. Also, it now comes with runtime clipboard redirection, which allows users to transfer copied content from the host system to the temporary sandbox.

Another interesting feature added to Build 27686 is the addition of 2TB support for FAT32 storage. When formatting within Windows, the FAT32 size is now expanded from 32 GB to 2 TB of storage.

Sandbox Client Preview now also has added audio/video control capabilities and allows folder sharing with the host at runtime. Furthermore, the application has received its first version of command-line support.

Power settings

In addition, this latest Windows Insider Build features new power settings options. Within Windows 11, it is now possible to set different power modes when the device is running on main power or battery power. The different versions are ‘Plugged in’ and ‘On battery’.

Whereas Windows previously automatically adjusted power settings depending on running on battery or mains power, with profiles such as ‘best performance,’ ‘balanced’, or ‘best power efficiency,’ users can now determine these settings themselves as they see fit through the two separate options.

Users can use these options independently, so the device running Windows 11 will have a different power profile depending on whether it is connected to the wall socket or running on battery.

Other updates

Other options added to the latest Windows 11 Insider Canary Build 27686 include more control over HDR settings, a dedicated button for disconnecting (VHD/VHDx) virtual hard drives and periodic Microsoft network tests to collect diagnostic data.
