On Tuesday this week, Cognizant Technology Solutions, said that it was acquiring New Signature. New Signature deals in app development and cloud migration in Microsoft Azure environments.

In just this year, Cognizant has made five acquisitions of companies that deal in cloud-related business. The terms of the New Signature deal were not disclosed during the announcement.

The new purchase is geared towards creating a foundation for a new Microsoft Business Group developed by Cognizant. The new group is Microsoft-cloud specific. Since New Signature focuses specifically on Microsoft products like Azure, Microsoft 365, and Dynamics 365, it makes sense that Cognizant would want them for this new group.

Humble beginnings and rapid growth

Cognizant started as a web development and Y2K remediation company, in India. Over time, they grew to focus on public cloud and migration, with aggressive moves to expand, as evidenced by this fifth acquisition of a cloud-related company in the same year.

Cognizant is now a large company with 290,000 employees worldwide, with about half of them working out of India. Cognizant already has excellent partnerships with companies like Amazon and Google. Just this year, they were named a Microsoft Partner of the Year in three categories.

A worthy acquisition

New Signature is focused on specializations for government, vertical retail industries, media, healthcare, finance, and manufacturing. Some of their recent high-profile projects include cloud migration for Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd.

They also had an ‘Internet of Things’ project with Hershey Co. and a mapping project of 100,000 defibrillators in the United Kingdom. New Signature is one of only 70 companies in the world with a certified Azure Expert Managed Service Providers in the world.

They have 16 Gold Microsoft Competencies and was Microsoft UK Partner of the Year last year. It is clear why they attracted Cognizant.
