NEC and Fortinet are bringing joint solutions to market to provide communication service providers (CSPs) with secure 5G networks.

The advent of 5G is causing a sharp increase in data traffic over networks. Operators are required to make significant architectural changes without compromising on the customer experience, especially when it comes to securing data traffic. According to NEC and Fortinet, the transition requires a complete end-to-end security design and clear security measures.

NEC and Fortinet

NEC and Fortinet are releasing joint 5G solutions that should realize highly secure 5G networks for CSPs. Fortinet supplies security solutions like the hyperscale FortiGate firewall and related carrier-grade services. These include automation functionality and AI-based threat intelligence. The solutions should secure all domains and layers within operators’ 5G network environments.

NEC supplies professional services for the telecom industry, including carrier-grade, sustainable network functionality for 5G networks. Within the collaboration, the network specialist will primarily use Fortinet’s security solutions for the telecom services it provides. In addition, NEC offers technical expertise from other partnerships and ecosystems in its NEC Centers of Excellence (CoEs) and NEC Open Networks environments. This provides operators with an open suite of products for secure networks.

Insight

The joint solutions should allow operators to gain greater visibility into end users, applications and threats through a single environment. Both known and unknown threats are detected. In addition, the partners will intensively collaborate in the areas of RAN, mobile roaming, GiLAN/N6, and cloud-based security technology for telecom and edge environments. The release date of the first products is unknown.
